Maxwell hasn't talked in a while. "Where have you been?"; you ask. I've been around.
I didn't know what to say. I had many out-of-the-ordinary tasks to attend to; some, out of the realm what I normally talk about on this blog. If you know me, you know I don't like to make public statements about every aspect of my life - there are some things, I prefer to keep private. There is nothing secretive or cryptic here, just private. Let's face it, there is no 'private' on the Internet. Let's just say that I've taken a month, or so, off from the 'Net... other things in life happened.
One of the things that has kept Maxwell from talking, that has no privacy issues, was problems with the ol' Mac. I was totally blindsided by a hard drive that, in the end, a Mac Doctor said would not 'turn over'. ( The euphemism of a car engine was spot on - you could sometimes actually hear the "whir-whir", as the thing tried to get going.) I spent several days trying to fix, what was then an unknown issue, myself, then with the help of a friend; running first software, then hardware diagnostics. I really have no idea what all the codes and terminology of these diagnostics mean, unless a specific message for us laymen was present. Just the feeling of 'something isn't right' pretty much let me know I was in trouble. That is where the "Doctor" stepped in. Thank God for those "Mac Techies".
At this point, I still have a few things to do to get my computer back up to snuff. The "Doc" took it to the shop and saved as many folders on the hard drive that he could; though the hard drive's slow failure kept him from retrieving it all. I lost some of the most recent settings and files. I do back up, so there is info that I can access. I need to update parts of my web site. Still, my digital world didn't fall apart - it just disappointed and gave me more work. I'd like to reiterate how important back ups are. Lesson learned!
At any rate, I'm back online in some respects and will persist on writing this blog. As is this blog, it has become a challenge, this digital world. I've had to catch up on all information, what is going on, and where and when; try to resume where I left off. Time is always of the essence. Not that it takes all that long, I suppose I've been spoiled by the previous ease and continuity of living and working in the virtual realm.
I do have to say this: I thought I'd miss not checking email, 'SoNets', or blogs on a regular basis; I really didn't. It was kind of like a 'digital vacation'. And while, in fact, I actually had a few days off during this whole event; it was not a vacation I was waiting for.
The amount of email and explaining why I didn't answer it, was a pain, in terms of time and circumstance... though I had access to a back up laptop. So if I didn't get back to you via email, forgive me. It was a bit overwhelming. Send me another email, or, better still, give me a call.
Yeah, give me a call, then you can actually hear Maxwell Talk. Unless the phones go out... lose bars... maybe stick to the email... ummm, anyone have homing pigeons?
